ES:ME x FIFA Arab Cup 2021 Opening Ceremony

December 12, 2021

We played our part in the success of the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup in Doha

ES:ME has hit higher heights as we contribute to the historic grand opening ceremony of the first ever FIFA Arab Cup which took place in Al Bayt Stadium last November 30, 2021.

Show comers, fans and event participants that comprised the 60,000-capacity of the Al Bayt Stadium had witnessed the unveiling of the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021. With its amazing pyrotechnic acts and beautifully choreographed performances; Qatar was able to showcase the cultural richness of the Arab region through their traditional themes, scenes and costumes.

We worked on the Installation of six 140 meters of catenary wires across the stadium’s roof which included the installation of the Showtex roll up screens as well.

Inside the stadion, our riggers were busy installing 50 D8 Chain hoists with 48- 60 meter chains, 9 Cyberhoist Variable speed hoists and approximately 600 meters of trussing.

The rendered lighting setup involved the installation of 36 Robe Tetra Bar 2, 120 Clay Paky B-Eye K20, 72 Elation Proteus Hybrid, 42 Robe BMFL Blade and 40 Astera Titan Tube.

In partnership with our direct clients Katara Studios and Agence Publics Qatar, we were able to elevate the unique architecture of the Al Bayt Stadium which reflects the historically used tents of the nomadic peoples in Qatar and the Gulf region. Our team has proven once again that we are the experts, when it comes to event engineering, rigging and lighting solutions.

This was the first Arab Cup organized by FIFA and with our services we have become a part of this history. This project shows once again what the Gulf region is capable of and how diverse the Arab spirit can be expressed.

What’s up with gobos and why use them?

A gobo is a circular disc attached to a fixture that allows lighting equipment to project different images or patterns. The word gobo originated from the phrase “go between or before optics” which describes its position on a lighting fixture. Gobos are not a new technology but rather a classic tool used in the event industry everywhere in the world.
